GIE 2017 Show Review

Walker Manufacturing has had a stand-out presence at GIE+EXPO for 33 years, but this year was one of the best shows in a long time. With outdoor and indoor interactive booths, a Beautiful Cut viewing theater, and enthusiastic team members including the Walker family, employees, and distributors, it’s easy to see why we had a busy few days. Part of the success can be attributed to the rising interest shown by customers who are unfamiliar with the Walker mower.

“We scheduled one hundred mower demos, which was similar to other years. But these were the most engaged customers ever,” said Daniel Pape, a marketing team member here at Walker. “The depth of interaction was really great this year.”

Some of these engaged customers included, believe it or not, kids. Josh Grandprey from our technical services department said that he had some of the most fun working with these younger Walker enthusiasts. “There were twelve and fourteen-year-olds who had already started their own landscaping companies,” said Grandprey. “They came to our booth knowing what they wanted to see and you could tell they were excited to interact with our mowers.”

Walker employees and the Walker family were not the only ones interacting with customers at our booth. Many Walker distributors were invited to be a part of the action and help demonstrate mowers and engage with customers.

“It was really neat to see them [the distributors] interact with people and see their different approaches to selling the same product,” said Tom Hoffman, a seasoned Walker Manufacturing salesman. With this being one of the busiest years at the expo, we couldn’t have done it without our distributors’ help and expertise.

Coming out of the chaotic yet rewarding whirlwind that is GIE, we are looking forward to the coming year. This expo, among our other annual events, is just another reminder that this industry is strong, and the Walker mower is stronger than ever.
